Samsung LN32C550 - want *more* motion blur!

I just got a Samsung LN32C550 HDTV last year, and it's great, but I've been puzzling over how to adjust a particular setting. Sometimes (often) when I'm watching a movie, especially on Blu-Ray, I find that the camera movements look a little too smooth and video-y -- it has that "soap opera" effect where everything looks a little too real, and in some cases makes a simple camera movement look like a pan-and-scan video of old. I know for general brightness and color stuff, there's a "movie" setting, and that works reasonably well (as does the "natural" setting). However, that doesn't take care of the camera-motion problem. I've read a bit about anti-judder and motion-blur technology on various TVs, and it seems like the thing to do would be to turn that feature off or turn it down. Except the Samsung LN32C550 doesn't seem to have that as an option -- I can't find any settings on the "picture" menu that allow for the motion smoothness or whatever to be toned down or turned off, even on the "movie" setting. Any suggestions? I love the clarity of high-def but I also love the look of film, and I want movies to look like movies, not sports or soaps!

rockmarooned,

The Auto-Motion menu option is only available on 120Hz models.

What I can suggest is, to turn off some of the processing that may be causing the effect you don't like, try turning the specific inputs that you're having an issue with into "Game Mode'. This will remove some of the picture processing which may be causing this.

To do this, let's try to rename your input as a "Game" input. Using your remote, press:

Menu > Input > Edit Name > from "----" to "GAME"

Remember, each input is independent, so if that works for one input (such as HDMI-1) and you also want it on HDMI-2, then you'll do that change for HDMI-2 as well.

On my Samsung 55c630 I dutifully changed HDMI-1 and HDMI-2(div) to GAME, and want to return to the original settings ... which I can't remember. Help, please.

frankiejava,

Using your remote, press:

Menu > Input > Edit Name > (Rename back to "----") > ENTER

Does that help?

actually, no. My question is rename back to what? So I need "___" filled in.

Satellite STB? (I have Direct TV) AV Receiver? In other words I forgot the original setting.

thanks much

frankiejava,

The name of the original settings are four unnamed dashes: "----".

You could use "Satellite STB", though, or any of the settings that look better to you.
