Sony MDR-V600 Headphones Malfuntioning

Righty, well as of this morning my headphones have been playing up; It's gone completely silent in one ear. There are no obvious signs of phsical trauma, and i was using them last night with no problems whatsoever, no crackling or static etc, and all i did was stick them on the shelf, no bending or throwing or dropping or whatever. It is perfectly silent, no fuzzy noises or quiet music if i wiggle the wires or anything. I've tried them with differend audio devices, so it's not the jack on my mp3. I just wantto know if a) anyone knows what the problem is and b) what can be done about it, whether i have a chance at repairing them myself, or can hire someone, or if they're totally dead. It's such a sudden fault - i looked into it and the best i can get is that theyve possibly shorted out? Hoping not, theyre pricey! Any help whatsoever will be really appreciated <3
